Best Intermediate DSLR Camera. Canon 77D Review

Hey guys a week ago I managed to get my hands on to a brand new Canon EOS 77D and I got to say best intermediate DSLR camera. I didn’t want to write a review before testing it at least a week but… boy, I was in love after the first 5 minutes :).  But I don’t want to spoiler you 🙂  let’s just get started with the Canon 77D review.

    • Price: $849.99
    • Best place to buy:
    • Price performance:  Very Good 9/10
    • Quality: 10/10

I think that the 77D is the best intermediate DSLR camera you can get because it has pretty much the capability of an 80D but is a fear amount cheaper but at the same time, it is not a rebel.

Most important specifications:

  • Sensor: 24MP sensor with Dual Pixel autofocus
  • Focus System: 45-point all-cross-type phase-detect autofocus system
  • Processor: Digic 7 better than the 80D
  • Image Stabilization: 5 Axis Stabilization
  • Iso: 100-51200
  • Screen: 3″ fully-articulating touchscreen LCD
  • Top Screen: Top plate LCD for shooting information
  • Handling: Dual control dials
  • Burst Rate: 6fps continuous shooting until card is full
  • Video Mode: 1080/60p video capture, microphone input
  • Connection: USB, Bluetooth, Wifi

The Body

Canon Eos 77d has a slightly bigger body than the 800d but it is still very handy. It comes with two screens one LCD screen on top and a flipable screen on the back which is very useful for vlogging, selfies or just taking pictures at an unusual angle. It also has two wheels which make navigation very easy.

The Touchscreen

Makes the handling even better and even for beginners very easy to learn and understand.

Build in Tutorial

Yes, you heard right the camera has a built-in tutorial for every mode or configuration you can use on the camera. That means you don’t need to read the manual. 🙂 The tutorial makes it very beginner friendly, but you can also turn the tutorial off if you want.

The Auto Focus System

The 45 Dual pixel Auto Focus system which canon is known for is one of the fastest in the world only beaten by canons top products. I tried it in low light situations and I got to say when you step up from a rebel you will love the better system. Because it is just on point in no time in Photo as well as in video intermediate camera

The Sensor

The 77D has a newer and so better Sensor generation build in than the 80D has. It has 24MP Dual Focusing and works very good in low light, plus it captures amazing detail.

Like I said the iso goes from 100-25600 and 51200 extended. If you come from a rebel you know that you can shoot a photo with an acceptable noise up to Iso 1600 however on a 77D  you get the same noise at Iso 6400 which is a big step in my opinion.

Wifi and Bluetooth.

As all new Canon Cameras, it has built-in Wifi and Bluetooth. That means you don’t need to go home before you can upload or save a photo or video.

The Lens

The Canon Eos 77D comes with the standard 18-55mm kit lens. Many people used to not like the lens and that still might be the case. However, Canon refurbished the lens a little bit and it is pretty on point sharp now. Plus you have an image stabilizer and the noise the Autofocus used to make is almost gone so you can easily make videos with it.

I could now talk on for ages about the technical aspects of the camera but overall I think all it is clear that the EOS 77D is better than any rebel and comparable with the 80D just a big step cheaper. so If you are looking for a next step camera here you can buy the 77D and have fun with it. 🙂

That’s already it 🙂 I hope you got all the information you needed and if you have any opinions or questions on my canon 77d review, let me know in the comments.

Wait a minute! (I apologize, as I am just getting into photography), but if a camera has bluetooth… does that mean I can upload the pictures to my laptop without having to plug it in, or take out the card and insert it in my laptop?! Because that would be awesome! 😀

I’ve budgeted about 1000$ for my first “nice” camera, that I intend to make do with throughout my education… but even if this is more than I need as a beginner – it sounds awesome!

What I am really excited about is build in tutorials… there’s nothing more frustrating for me than not knowing how everything works – but it’s also so exciting to figure everything out… so learning on the camera will be great!

    Thanks for the review!

Hey, Mei scarlet. yes, it means you can load them directly on to your phone, tablet or laptop but you will need to install the app first. 🙂 you can use it as your first DSLR if you want but there are cheaper alternatives for a very basic camera like the rebel t6s… It also has a build in a tutorial. I hope I was able to help you 🙂 Cheers, Aaron

    Hello Aaron,

What a classic camera you have reviewed about. Indeed this canon is so special. I Especially like the fact that it come with a touch screen and a built in tutorial, making it user friendly.

In fact when I saw it first, I admired it, but then I was also thinking about just how to use it since I’m not that expert in using cameras, thankfully this canon has a built in tutorial and I think even the touch screen alone makes it so great.

As you said I’m going to get my right from here from Amazon. But want to ask you this, will you recommend this camera for personal use? OR for business purpose.

I will be happy to hear from you.

Hey, Stephen. yes, the build in touch screen makes things a lot easier. 🙂 I would recommend it as a camera for personal use as well as for professional use. I, for example, use it as my backup camera. I hope I was able to help you. 🙂 Cheers Aaron.

I don’t know that much about cameras, but I want to learn more! It’s one of the things on my ‘bucket list’ to learn! The thing that got me about your this camera and your review is learning how user-friendly it is! A built-in tutorial? Awesome! I’ve been looking at Nikon brand as well. In your opinion, which is better, Nikon or Cannon?

    1. Aaron

Hey, Jackie, If you think about it you should start with photography the sooner the better. 😛 Now to your questions. Canon and Nikon are quality and any other ways the same. Like Apple and Samsung. The only difference is that Nikon is known for having the best bodies, and Canon for having the best lenses. But there are both very good. I hope I was able to help you. 🙂

Both Canon and Nikon are bringing out so many new camera models these days. It’s hard to keep up with them all or to know what to choose. That’s why coming across articles like yours proves to be so helpful. We have so many choices these days, that reviews really help to narrow it down.

How long has the Canon 77D been out. I haven’t heard of this one before, but it sounds like it does a lot, and for a very affordable price.
