Why Photography as Hobby?

Why Photography as Hobby?

10 Reasons

Why not? 😃 Today I want to brag about why I think photography is THE BEST hobby 😃. Most people just buy a camera, because of a wedding, a baby gets born or the uncle owns a canon mark III and doesn’t let you use it (like in my case) and then they get into photography as hobby like a trap 😃. So here are my reasons and my opinions on why you should be doing photography as a hobby, as well as why you should get started now and not later. 😊

  1. To learn to see and watch

When you start doing photography as a hobby, you will start to look at things differently and start to see things you would never have seen before. For example, when you look at a flower in the morning after you started macro photography. You used to see just a flower in the morning, but now you see a whole scenery in detail the flower, the bloom, the water on it and how the sunlight is shining through it.

how to get into photography as a hobby

  1. To hold on to memories

This is my favorite point, why I like to take pictures and also why I started with it. To put my memory’s in a picture and save them there forever. Even if I might not look at them every day, I will be able to see how wild I was, how much fun I had in my life and relive these moments when I’m sitting in my rocking chair as an old grandpa. 😊

  1. Combine it with other hobbies.

You can combine photography with any other hobby you want. If you into motocross, awesome take pictures of it. Like you probably would do anyway with your mobile, but now you can make even better pictures.

  1. Train your Brain

Researchers have shown that, if you learn a new skill, it will improve your memory and your ability to have steeper learning curves for other things as well.  A study has shown that the more difficult a skill is the more will it improve your brain abilities. So, photography might be the right one since there is a freaking lot to learn.

  1. Get outside

Have you ever been outside for hours at 03:00 a.m. without any intent to party? Or alcohol involved? Probably not because there was no reason for it right? Well, now you have one. You want to make beautiful night sky pictures. 😊

  1. Creativity

Photography will challenge and train your creativity a lot. Which I think is very important, since we live in an age where creativity gets very rare because you don’t really need it to survive. You just google what you want to know and there you go.

  1. Challenge yourself

You can participate in challenges for specific types of pictures online. Which will improve your skills a lot, as well as your creativity. When you get better and win challenges, it will make you a name as a photographer and even give you job opportunities.

  1. Make money with it

Everybody knows that photography can be a pretty expensive hobby, but did you know that you can sell almost every good photo you made at a stock site and get a passive income for that which will grow over time.

  1. Get up early

Yes, it makes you get up early in the morning. I never liked to get up early, there was absolutely no way to see me before sunrise in any kind of way. 😃 But now I start my day actively since one of the most beautiful times with the best light is at sunrise and shortly after it.

  1. Meet and get to know new people

When you do street photography (which is in my opinion, one of the most interesting types) you can’t get around to meet more interesting people in a day than others do in a whole year.

I hope I could convert you into a photograph. 😝 Just kidding. 😃 I hope you liked to read the post and if you have any opinions or questions let me know in the comments.

  1. Hey Aaron,
Thanks for your great article! I really enjoyed it.
I love to take pictures of the nature, animals, but especially of different humans and you are so right, if you don’t take pictures you will never get in touch with them.
And year I never get up early! But when I know there is a possibility to take a wonderful picture I’m up.

With such an hobby like photography you have only advantages.
So take a camera and do it!

Hey Leonie, Thanks for the positive feedback 🙂 There are so many new things you start to do in your life when you get started with photography.

    Hi,
We travel a lot and we are also taking many pictures but it’s important to know how to take a good picture. Great hobby. You offer comprehensive information and motivate others to get into photography. Could you recommend any good camera right now? The worst thing what can happen is when you go somewhere distant and you take blurry pictures. Many thanks.

The thought of taking up photography has entered my mind several times. This thought however, always gets chased out of my mind by the assumption that whatever camera I will need to get started will be too expensive for me. Is this true? Do I have to be rich to take up this hobby?

Also, is there a certain type of photography that a beginner should take on first before attempting any other type e.g. should a beginner start with taking shots of landscapes before even thinking of taking shots of people? Does it matter where you start?

Hey Alicia, I am glad that you think about getting started you will not regret it. a good camera to get started is really any camera expensive equipment doesn’t make a picture look good you should be absolute fine with this dslr https://whatcameraguide.com/canon-eos-rebel-t6-kit… it costs about 480$.
And no, I don’t think there is any best type of photography to get started. If I would be you I would just find out what type you like the most and try to get good with that. Since in my opinion having fun is the best motivation. 😊

  4. Joeka

Great article Aaron! I recently had to give up photography and stick to videoagraphy because my camera’s shutter button stopped working, but after reading your article, you’ve convinced me to start taking photos again once it’s fixed.

Plus I’m thinking of getting into stock photography now because I like in Jamaica, and there are excellent opportunities to capture beautiful sceneries. And the little extra cash wouldn’t hurt 😉

    1. Aaron

Hey Joeka, well I like to do Videography as well 😊 and I am happy that I was convincing enough to get you back on photography too 😊 I think it really works very good together and increases the learning curve a lot. Stock photography is a very good opportunity in my opinion since you upload the photos once and the will generate money forever just don’t give up on it if you not making money of it instantly. I had to wait too. 😊
PS: I think Jamaican pictures will give you a real advantage on stockists since there is very rare competition and it is a very beautiful country. 😊

Photography definitely seems awesome, I have a few friends that are into it and their Instagram looks beautiful. whats a good camera to kind of feel out the hobby with, without spending too much money?
I’m often up early in the morning and see some amazing things I wouldn’t mind capturing but am also a father supporting a family.
Hard to justify spending TOO much money on something I don’t quite know if I will like yet.
Interesting how you are able to make money with it. I hadn’t even considered that!
    -thanks

    1. Aaron

Hey Rob, awesome that you are willing to give photography a shot 🙂 a good camera is the canon rebel t6 https://whatcameraguide.com/canon-eos-rebel-t6-kit… I started with this model as well and I loved. 🙂 It costs around 479$ so you still got something for your family but now you can even take pictures of your kids growing up 🙂

You can also make money with it. It works with stock photos so it is a passive income stream.
